We had an appt yesterday to teach a man who is retired Malaysian Navy. His wife is a member (less active) and several married children and families live with them. They have a set of twins, 1 month old and another baby 3 months old and various ages from there up. Well, the Dad (Kayan) didn't want to wake up and listen, so we taught one daughter who isn't a member. She has 4 children and wants to be baptized - non supportive husband. But we're invited back tomorrow night to teach again and hopefully the Dad will be there. She'd like to be baptized with her Dad and her 8 year old son. We hope! Garald gave a great lesson and it was just neat to testify together. The Dad had requested us to teach as he preferred someone 'older.' Mmmm age does have its privileges. We hope to get them started then gradually transfer them over to the elders.
Had a training visit last night from Sister Clarke - the mission president's wife. Then two members of the branch R.S. presidency dropped in. They all stayed for hours. Fixed grilled cheese\tuna sandwiches. NOT gourmet, but it was something, especially for this 'cooking impaired' sister. They asked me to teach the R.S. lesson this Sunday. Nice ladies who are very unsure about how to run their organization. But very dedicated and willing.
Her nickname is B and she lives with her grandparents Uki & Lucy and two other families. She definitely 'rules' the whole household. Delightful!
At the mall a few days ago and hungry. Really had a hankering for a salad. No such luck. So we got this - not real sure what it is, but it was good. Interesting - hot, humid climate and hot, spicy food - always. Oh, but we did buy an ice cream treat later.
Ginny - just for you. I don't think your 'green' house can hold a candle to this very upscale and very bright green home.
Walking to Sister Chuk's house. America may have its problems, but thankfully trash thrown\smoldering everywhere is not one of them. The smell - need I say more?
Children playing while their mothers cook the hamburgers. I asked if I could take the little girl's picture and the boy came running and posed as well. They literally steal your hearts.
The cooks at the "hamburger stand" where we stopped to get something to eat on our way home the other night. ACTUAL hamburgers - although that's not what they're called. And of course, they were not quite the same, but good anyway - especially if you're hungry. We sat on the curb to eat. Many locals quite intrigued with watching the white people.
Sister Chuk where we painted. Love her - she's raising 3 boys as a single parent and working hard at holding everything together.
Our paint crew last Saturday's service project. It was sooo hot! Sister Chuk's fence\courtyard. Elder Parrish - second elder from the left was transferred this week. We'll truly miss him. Sister Chuk's son on the far left. Notice the size of the 'itty bitty' paint rollers - right - in Elder Christensen's hands. BIG wall - little tiny rollers - weird paint. The grey paint is the newly painted part.
