Yesterday morning was such fun for us. We sat on the sofa and watched Kirrah's wedding reception on Skype. The kids sat the computer on a chair outside and we just watched as much as we could. We kind of felt like two little mice watching a party from under the house. But we loved it. We had none of the responsibilities and stress and rushing around that we saw going on in some of the family - just sat back and enjoyed. So fun to see the grandchildren, dressed up, running around, enjoying each other and a summer party. Sometimes they stopped by the computer to 'chat.' But actually didn't have a lot of time for that. Kirrah was such a beautiful bride and we are so proud of her and Ryan and the good decisions they've made. DL said in the temple she was 'glowing.' Congrats to all. Apparently everyone helped a lot and they now think it's all over, and they're relieved. But I'm not sure they've counted how many little granddaughters are in our family and this is JUST the beginning. In Juliann's last e mail, (we got such a chuckle) she complained the wedding was ruining her life and she'd be so glad when it was over. I tried to remind her that someday she'll be the bride and Kirrah may very well be her very best helper.
After the wedding festivities, we joined with two of our branch members and trekked over to Singapore. It was a big first for us, as Garald drove our car - made it out of Malaysia and into Singapore and then back. BIG first for us. Immigration is kind of an intimidating thing for us, but we're getting better. (we understand that of all the many couple missionaries here - we are the first to ever drive) We attended a new LDS church house open house. So very beautiful and very well done. We were able to watch as the deputy prime minster (comparable to our nation's vp) walked in with his entrouge and did the tour. Afterward had dinner at a Japanese restaurant. When we visit Singapore we're always amazed that such a high tech, modern city is so close to our 3rd world country. Amazing.
Today as we arrived at church we saw a taxi just arriving and an elderly white couple got out (gasp) They didn't look like investigators. We were consumed with curiosity. Of course, we quickly introduced ourselves. Their Aussie accent tipped us off right off the bat as to where they were from. Long time members (40 years) endowed (hoorah) and active. Had a hard time finding our little branch, but finally did. (have been attending in Singapore) They live on a yacht in Danga Bay. Their home is Perth Australia - where they occasionally return. Sometimes they dock the yacht (it's motorized or they can sail) and go to Europe for a while. Have 3 children and grown grandchildren back home. They will be here until the end of the year - at least. Gosh - our whole little branch was quite excited. We took them home afterward. Oh - thank goodness for our little Garmin. When they got in the car and we asked where to go - they didn't know. Then I remembered they had come by bus and taxi and didn't really know the streets. Garald's instincts were correct but nice to be backed up by the GPS. They're coming to branch clean up activity next Saturday and mentioned we'll need to get together for dinner. We do hope it's on the yacht.
We had three appointments this evening. One was a pot luck dinner with some of the Chinese members. Always fun and delicious. One a teaching appointment where we accompanied the elders because there were two women - it did not go well. The other with David and Mei and their ongoing but very sad home problems. We wish we knew how to help more - have an appointment for Garald to give Mei a blessing on Tuesday night. We hope and pray for the best for them - such a good family - but slowly fading away. We're not marriage counselors - don't know what to do.
It's bedtime and we're tired. Full day - full hearts.
