Made a trek today!

Today (Thursday) we had an appointment in the downtown Johaur Bahur area for Garald to see a specialist (ear, nose, throat) about a little 'ear wax' problem he's been having. Says he feels like he's always underwater and hearing was so difficult. Right now hearing and understanding what people are saying to us is just SO important. Last week, we found our way to a little "klinik" we'd heard about and found a very nice woman Chinese doctor. She spoke very good English. She checked the ears, but said it was bad and too close to the ear drum for her to attempt and we'd need to go to Dr. Tse, a specialist. We called for an appt as she directed (was sooo hard to understand the person on the phone) and were told to come on Thursday. They open at 8:30 to 1:00 P.M. and take people as they come. So we ventured forth. Got the right bus, arrived downtown and then tried to find the building. After some walking, we realized (sort of) that we were going the wrong direction. So turned around and tried again. After navigating crossing several streets, corners, life threatening traffic crossings, etc - we found it. Small, rather dimly lit hospital type building. Climbed the stairs to the correct floor and were told the wait would be about an hour. Turned out to be about 90 minutes. Gosh...I was glad it was him going into that little room. I did go with him though. English speaking doctor - this is good. He was very efficient and did the job with lots of warm water. Afterward did a hearing test and announced all was well. Garald tried to get out of the chair, but was extremely dizzy, so the Dr. picked up a little hair blow dryer and warmed up the ear canal. Things were slightly better then. But as we left, he was extremely pale and I was becoming concerned about getting home. We walked a short distance to a hotel we'd seen, went in and sat in the lobby for a while. Then ate at the little buffet. At that point things were looking better and he had some color back. Took us a while to find the correct bus back to our area - but we made it and we just have to say - we're quite proud of ourselves. We could never have done this a week ago. Tonight the 'hearing problem' has improved greatly and we're so grateful.

I'm glad Garald is doing better! Now with all your getting-around experience, you will have no problem figuring out the UTA buses in Utah :)
