On Saturday after Garald's Institute class, we had a young adult get together at our apartment. They played basketball, ate pizza and went swimming. About 8 present. We had to leave for an appointment with the Tinggom family, so we gave them our key and they partied on without us - which was just fine. We were glad we made the visit, as Bro Tinggom had some questions about why his new church did not celebrate Good Friday. Most people who worked in Singapore had the day off - not so for this country. But it still affected a lot of people here. The elders were with us and we explained how we rejoice in the empty tomb, the fact that He is Risen, victory over death rather than the death itself. He smiled and said, "Tak faham." (I understand) He has an investigator friend who also had the same questions. As a little interesting sidenote, the elders have had some recent investigators who could go no further, because the church does not have cemeteries in which they can be buried. That is a big concern for many people.
On Sunday evening we were invited by Sister Chuk to come to her home and do some games with some Chinese students and her children. It was great fun. We played an English Bingo game, blow the ping pong ball, and a drawing game where we pass the paper around and everyone adds their part to a person's picture. We had Easter eggs for treats. (thanks Ginny) Had to explain the word Easter to the students - a new term.
We gathered around the table after the games for a group picture. Sister Chuk on my right. She's Chinese - single mother of 3 boys. She's a return missionary and is thinking of returning to BYU this fall to pursue an advanced degree. She's teaching here and quite dislikes the school system.
Chuk had the ingredients ready for making Sushi and showed me and the other students how to do it. I ACTUALLY MADE SUSHI! It was easy, fun and really delicious. I think I can do this at home.

Elder G. waiting for me to finish the sushi. I can't think of any homes we visit that have air conditioning. This is one of the terrace houses, which is definitely one of the nicer homes. But a ceiling fan just doesn't do a lot to keep it cool. I'm such a wimp - so grateful for air con in our apartment. One day this week our doorbell rang and it was the cute little Chinese Mother who lives next door. She has often sent 'home cooked' food items over to us with her children and we have sent brownies to her. She doesn't speak English. Came in with her head down and kind of crouching along. Said her son's English - very bad. She can't help. Apologetically asked if I could help him with his English. A true picture of a mother doing something very intimidating for the sake of her son. So we've set up Monday and Thursday at 3:00 P.M. Today was his first time and I could tell he was very nervous. We did one unit in his English book and he's really pretty good. I think it will be an okay activity. Gave him a choice from the 'Seminary candy basket' before he left and he seemed a little more at ease.
Elder & Sister Brown are coming from Kuala Lumpur this week-end to stay with us and teach a family history seminar after church at our apartment - because that's the only place we have wireless internet. Everyone who comes will register at family search and learn how to proceed from there. Many branch members seem interested in coming. We've prepared flyers and been announcing it for several weeks. Because it's fast Sunday, I plan to make a very large pot of chicken soup and then have sandwich fixings for anyone who is ready to end their fast. Browns will be with us for 3 nights. Hooray - company - real English speaking adults - can't wait. Better clean the bathrooms. AND the extra bedroom, which is covered with all our study material. I'm pretty sure there's still a bed underneath all that stuff - will find out.
Also had a meeting with Peter and Agnes on Tuesday night. Looks like he might be baptized on May 14th. Requires special permission from the mission president - the elders are working on it. Seminary tomorrow night - better get studying.
